Geriatric patients have special needs that often go overlooked in a typical ED. Yet an innovative approach to geriatric emergent care pioneered by St Joseph’s Regional Medical Center (NJ) is addressing this problem. The geriatric ED at SJRMC provides geriatric specific care to patients who meet certain admission criteria. Thus far, the geriatric unit has succeeded in delivering specialized care while improving patient safety and improving overall ED throughput. Join us, as Dr. Mark Rosenberg of St. Joseph's demonstrates how to implement a geriatric ED including design considerations, barriers to implementation, staffing and triage/screening criteria.
